Hey fellow knitters!
Today I wanted to bring to you a list of my top 5 favourite yarns of all time! Originally I wanted to do a list of my top 10, but I’m pretty fussy with my yarn, and I realised that there are really only 5 yarns I use that I would highly rate. So here goes.
No. 1 Australian Superfine Merino by Cleckheaton
I didn’t even need to think about what would be my number one. This is my go to yarn for all my 8 ply/ DK projects. You will not find a softer yarn than this. It is slightly on the pricier side, but it’s well worth the extra cost. They also come in slightly bigger 65g balls which is a plus. Each ball of wool also comes with a label that you can sew onto your finished items, which I think is a pretty cool idea. You can check out their beautiful colour range here.
No. 2 We Love Knitting
I am completely obsessed with speckled yarn and there is none better than the beautiful hand dyed yarn from Claire and her Mum Ingrid at We Love Knitting. Their confetti yarn is my all time favourite colour way! Their colour ways are dyed on super soft 100% extra fine merino in both 8 ply/ DK, 4 ply fingering, and sock yarn. They also ship internationally. If you follow We Love Knitting on Instagram @weloveknitting, or sign up to their mailing list, you can keep up to date with when their shop is re-stocked. You have to be quick though, Claire has a massive following on social media and her yarn sells out pretty quickly.
No. 3 Malabrigo Rasta
I absolutely love knitting with chunky yarn! Not only does it make for a quick knit project, there is nothing more snuggly than a chunky yarn. Malabrigo Rasta is a super bulky yarn knitted with 9-12mm needles. They are hand dyed in small batches by a family run business, on very luxurious 100% merino wool. Their colour ways are super popular and very unique. You can easily knit a hat or beanie from one 150g skein. I buy my Malabrigo Rasta from LoveKnitting.com. They ship internationally and have a 15% discount for new customers.
No. 4 Hoooked Zpaghetti T-shirt Yarn
Coming in at number four is Hoooked Spaghetti. Hoooked Zpagetti t-shirt yarn is recycled, and they have new colours in daily. It does not work like mass produced yarn, it changes all the time. That’s why you won’t be able to find a colour name on their ball bands. Not only is it awesome that you’re using a recycled product, but your projects will always be unique too. T-shirt yarn is great for homeware projects, such a crocheted rugs & baskets. I’ve crocheted a dozen rugs for friends and family using this yarn. I buy mine directly from the factory as I have a wholesale account for my business, but Hoooked Spaghetti can also be purchased from LoveKnitting.com.
No. 5. Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick
Ok, so I know most of the above yarns are a little on the pricey side. What can I say… I’m a yarn snob. But coming in at a very respectable 5th position is Lion Brand’s Wool Ease Thick & Quick, which is a more budget friendly yarn. I use this super bulky yarn as a substitute when I can’t afford to buy Malabrigo Rasta or when I’m just after a nice solid colour. It’s a wool blend but it’s still quite soft. I mainly use it to knit hats in school uniform colours for my girls during winter. They are hard wearing and if they do get lost, I’m not going to have a conniption either. Again, this yarn can be purchased from LoveKnitting.com or alternatively you can purchase it from Amazon here.
I don’t usually like to knit with anything smaller than 8 ply/ DK, as I don’t seem to have the patience for it. So I’m sorry if this list disappoints all you sock yarn lovers! Maybe one day someone will convert me. But there you have it, my top 5 favourite yarns of all time!
